Simulation-Based Operational Evaluation of a Single-Berth Multipurpose Seaport with Wharf Space Restriction

Overcapacity of seaport infrastructure has been a common issue in many countries recent years. Cautious investment decisions shall be made on the basis realistic capacity evaluation and productivity improvement existing ports. However, operational analysis is not always easy, especially for multipurpose terminals which are commonly seen developing countries. These small-scaled seaports handle different cargo types with multiple interrelated processes varying handling methods process times. This paper studies single-berth wharf space restriction Indonesia shows how simulation model can essential significantly helpful port’s capacity. Furthermore, new method proposed evaluated by model. The approach related results help port operator making regarding future expansion investments.
